The Holy Cross Area Faith Community was formed in 2005 out of the direction of the Plan for Parishes of the Diocese of New Ulm. When the AFC was formed, it consisted of the five parishes in the New Ulm area: The Church of St John the Baptist, Searles; the Church of St. Mary, New Ulm; the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, New Ulm; the Church of St. George, West Newton Township; and the Church of St. Gregory the Great, Lafayette. During the first ten years, we shared some resources, mainly school and faith formation. In 2015, Msgr. Douglas Grams was appointed pastor of all five parishes in our AFC and from that point forward, we have continued to share resources and staff. In 2021, the Church of St. Gregory the Great, Lafayette closed and most members joined one of the four other parishes in our AFC. As of 2023, all programs are AFC programs and 90% of the staff are Holy Cross AFC employees. We strive for unity in all aspects of our daily operations.
